Tokyo– Space BD, a leading Japanese space startup, announces that it completed delivering 9 satellites from all over the world via SpaceX’s Falcon 9 during the Transporter-6 mission. The launch to a sun synchronous orbit (SSO) was successfully completed at 9:56 a.m. EST on January 3, 2023.
In November 2021, Space BD purchased the satellite rideshare slot on the mission. Through sales activities and technical support, Space BD gathered satellites from 6 organizations in total, including the UK company (6 total countries). To date Space BD has provided satellite developers with launch method proposals and technical support as well as support for various screenings required prior to launch. On this occasion, all satellites serviced by Space BD have been delivered to orbit.
Since Space BD was selected as a commercial service provider by JAXA (the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) for the small satellite deployment from the International Space Station (ISS) in 2018, Space BD has provided launch services for 50+ satellites for users in Japan and overseas using JAXA’s launch opportunities, including ISS utilization, rideshare on the next generation flagship rocket H3, and the next ISS resupply vehicle HTV-X.
To respond to the growing and diverse demand for the use of space, in 2021 Space BD began adding global launch methods to the existing Japanese launch methods. This enabled Space BD to provide more flexible launch timeframes, accommodate a wider variety of satellite sizes, and made it possible to achieve launch to desired orbits. This launch was the first satellite launch using an overseas rocket.
Space BD continues to energize the commercial use of space by creating an environment to respond to more diverse demand through these expanded transport options into space.
