Space BD Inc. (“Space BD”), a space business operator offering a range of services, including satellite launches and microgravity research on the ISS, has signed a contract with Japan Ministry of Defense (“JMOD”) to provide satellite launch service. In partnership with SPACE ONE CO., LTD., the launch of an optical satellite manufactured by Canon Electronics will be executed. The primary objective of this satellite is to demonstrate its observation capability and make contribution to the advancement of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) proficiency. This launch service contract marks the first contract between JMOD and Space BD.
Role of Space BD
Space BD provides launch support services for the satellite, including satellite integration, launch, and through deployment to a desired orbit. Since its founding, the company has supported a wide range of missions tailored to each satellite’s specific needs and launch timeline.
Unlike our typical rideshare launch model where multiple small satellites share a single launch opportunity, this project marks Space BD’s first experience procuring an entire launch vehicle for a mission centered around a small satellite as the primary payload. Drawing on our accumulated expertise, we are committed to providing flexible and reliable support for this milestone launch.
Future Outlook
“As the number of dedicated small satellite missions continues to grow, Space BD aims to establish and expand this launch model alongside existing rideshare opportunities, enabling more diverse and flexible access to space for small satellites.
