Plates Back Home in the Hands of JO1 After Space Journey!

Tokyo—Space BD, a leading Japanese space startup, announces that our Co-Founder & CEO Masatoshi Nagasaki has handed over the plates that were launched into space as a part of the second round of the Space Delivery Project “RETURN to EARTH” to JO1, who served as the official ambassadors for this space use project.
These metal plates featuring designs such as the jacket design for KIZUNA, the group’s second album, and the JAM (collective name for fans) logo were launched to the ISS on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, and attached to the ISS exposed facility on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. After an approximately 3-month journey through space the plates were returned to Earth on Friday, June 30, and the inspection by relevant authorities such as NASA and JAXA is now complete.

These plates that embarked on a space journey with JAM travelled at a speed of approximately 7.9 km/second (28,000 km/hour) at an altitude of approximately 400 km above the Earth’s surface, all the while being exposed to cosmic and ultraviolet rays. At this speed one orbit of the Earth takes about 90 minutes, with about 16 orbits per day.

We are so happy that these plates, bearing our dream of flying beyond the world and into outer space have made their journey and now come back to us.
Holding these plates in our hands, which have actually travelled through outer space, was so thrilling that it inspired all of us at JO1 to keep doing our best to take on new challenges in the future.
■Space Delivery Project “RETURN to EARTH”
This project makes use of the small simple exposure experiment device (ExBAS/developed jointly with JAXA) installed in the medium exposure experiment adapter (i-SEEP) of the ISS Kibo. Space BD called for participation among a wide range of organizations and is providing a variety of support, including the item selection, launch, and the return to Earth.
