The International Symposium on Space Technology and Science (ISTS) is an international space conference that has been held every other year since 1959. In 2023 it was held in June in Kurume City in Fukuoka, Japan, marking the first time the symposium was held in-person in about 4 years. Over 1,000 people joined per day from countries around the world for this event, the largest international space conference in Japan.

On June 7, 2023, during the ISTS conference at Kurume City in Fukuoka, Space BD hosted the “New Space Night” event. Over 100 stakeholders in industry, government, and academia joined this event, which aimed to promote cooperation on the future development of the space industry. There was a wide range of participants, including from JAXA, university stakeholders, and industry stakeholders ranging from heavy industry manufacturers to space startups, from Japan and overseas, who all came together to enjoy food and drink related to Kurume as well as stalls offering grilled yakitori chicken skewers and ramen.

 

The event MCs were Kaira Shokin from Fukuoka (Kaikinsho: https://profile.yoshimoto.co.jp/talent/detail?id=7119) and Nonaka from Saga  (Metal Rack: https://profile.yoshimoto.co.jp/talent/detail?id=3738), both entertainers from the Yoshimoto Kogyo talent agency, who made the event an exciting night to remember. There was also a space cocktail contest, where ten teams competed to create a cocktail on the theme of space, with the following judging criteria: 1. Concept / Feel, 2. Taste / Aroma, 3. Presentation quality. The winning team was awarded local Japanese sake and Kasuri fabric, both products of Kurume City.
